Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson - born Jacqueline Luesby to Chris Watson and Jacqueline Luesby, two British lawyers, was born on August 8, 1989, in Paris. In her early years she was enrolled in her school, the Dragon School in Oxfordshire. Emma was six years old when she decided she wanted to be an actor. She studied for a number of years in Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a part time theatre school in Oxford in which she learned acting as well as singing. Through a school play as well as the stage of a Stagecoach Production, Emma took her role as lead actress at 10 and performed. In 1999 casting began in the production of Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the film adaptation of British author J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Agents for casting found Emma via her Oxford theatre teacher. David Heyman, the producer of Harry Potter Harry Potter's Sorcerer's Stone, and Ron Weasley told Emma after 8 auditions, that she had been picked for these roles. Emma was chosen to play alongside Daniel Radcliffe Rupert Grint and Rupert Grint. Emma's first appearance on the big screen came in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, released in 2001. The film is 2001's top grossing film, breaking records at the opening and first weekend. Critics were impressed with the movie and its performances. The Daily Telegraph, a popular British paper, praised her for her performance.
